Gin & Watermelon-Basil Smash
This cocktail is based on one of my favourite drinks: Gin & Basil Smash, which was invented in Hamburg in 2008 and since then won high popularity in Germany.
In this version, I have added fresh watermelon and rather than shaking it, all ingredients including the ice are combined in the blender so you get a super refreshing and ice cold and fruity cocktail. The drink works perfectly as a mocktail, too!
Ingredients
For 2 cocktails
400 g watermelon
10 ice cubes
5 basil leaves (+2 leaves for garnish)
120 ml gin (12 cl)
45 ml (4.5 cl) freshly squeezed lemon juice
Method
Cut 400 g watermelon into pieces.
Add watermelon, 5 basil leaves, 22 ml lemon juice, 60 ml gin and 10 ice cubes into the blender and set on high speed until the ice is fully processed.
Fill into 2 glasses and garnish with a basil leaf.
