Caramelized Apple Tart

jThe apples are sliced thin, coated in a buttery caramel glaze, and baked under a layer of flaky puff pastry.

Once flipped, you get perfectly soft, caramelized apples with a crispy base. Serve it warm with vanilla sauce or ice cream for a simple yet impressive dessert. Quick to make and full of flavour!

Ingredients
Serves 2
(320 kcal per tart)

  • 2 green apples

  • puff pastry

  • 25g butter

  • 3 tbsp brown sugar

  • vanilla sauce or vanilla ice cream

  • 2 small flan dishes

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).

  2. Prepare the Apples:

    • Peel 2 apples and remove the core.

    • Using a mandoline or a sharp knife, slice the apples very thinly.

  3. Make the Caramel Mixture:

    • In a bowl, melt 25g butter and 3 tbsp brown sugar together.

    • Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.

  4. Prepare the Puff Pastry:

    • Place a flan dish on the puff pastry and use a sharp knife to cut out two circles.

  5. Assemble the Tarts:

    • Dip the apple slices into the butter-sugar mixture.

    • Layer the coated apple slices inside the flan dishes, stacking them until each tray contains one whole apple.

    • Cover with the puff pastry circle and press down gently.

    • Brush the pastry with olive oil.

  6. Bake the Tarts:

    • Place the flan trays on the middle oven rack and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown.

  7. Serve:

    • Carefully flip each tart upside down onto a plate so the caramelized apples are on top.

    • Serve warm with vanilla sauce or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
